"Fabricscape"
FABRICSCAPE is innovative pattern-cutting approach devised by Elena Ryleeva that is destined to initiate a new conscious direction in designing of clothing and accessories.
FABRICSCAPE project explores the application of mathematics, geometry (in cutting process), draping and sewing techniques to recreate the fabric surface/surfaces into three-dimensional structured sculptural object with exciting potentiality to becoming a unique design.

Important note: "Fabricscape" was coined by Elena in order to name her innovative method to work
which starts from contemplating the fabric piece and its “hand” - the feel of the fabric against the skin, and its draping properties. Further on the fabric piece gets transformed into a 3D surface by using creative pattern cutting and completing the design process on a dress-form.

“FABRICSCAPE” Sleeves
The series of innovative sleeves were created and developed by EWST fashionlab founder Elena Ryleeva as upshot of a bigger project named “FABRICSCAPE”. All sleeves have big voluminous exaggerated shape.
Sleeves application: gowns, wedding dress, red-carpet dress, avant-garde clothing.

Each sleeve is developed from a basic set-in sleeve.

Basic set-in sleeve must be drafted using EWST fashionlab practice which is originated from French (ESMOD) method. So, for the start you should draft basic sleeve following the instructions (PDF file “EWST set-in sleeve”) Additionally you can watch video-lesson "Drafting basic set-in sleeve".

Once you achieve the basic sleeve pattern you will employ it for further manipulation while using instructions for a certain sleeve (PDF file). Elena’s constructions are based on S size sleeve pattern, however the given measurements can be applied for bigger sizes too. Besides pattern making instructions, the file contains fabric advice and manufacturing/assemblage guidance.

We also offer half-scale basic sleeve pattern, S size, so you may use this pattern for practicing and constructing the sleeve in half scale first, it helps to grasp the construction concept quicker. Note, you should decrease the given measurements in half for half-scale constructions.
Requirements: pattern-making/advanced level, sewing/advanced.
Tools, materials: pattern paper, scissors, rulers - straight and French ruler, pencil, notcher, measure tape, scotch tape. The measurements are given in centimeters, additionally the file contains conversions table for converting the numbers to inches.

You will learn how to create ribbed balloon skirts.The short course consists of two video lessons and introduces two skirts:10-rib skirt and 20-rib skirt which has more voluminous shape.Besides getting the knowledge of how to draft the patterns for the skirt you will have advice on fabric/materials and instructions on skirt manufacturing, including the sewing order.

You will learn how to create the minimum of three skirts with the same pattern set. This short course with 3 video tutorials is related to “FABRICSCAPE” project which is explorative in its nature. It combines flat pattern making with draping methods.
The particular shape of the pattern in this project comes from Victoria stock flower (Malcolmia marítima, Latin). Three styles were created - the structured pleated-like skirt, the puff skirt with rose-like shapes at the bottom of the skirt and the “pannier-like” skirt with considerable extensions of the hips, reminiscent of the 17-18 centuries’ panniers.
Some other intriguing shapes were generated during the work process which creates an opportunity for the learner to further explore the use of patterns for his/her own creations.

You will learn how to create the one-pattern piece cocoon jacket (2 versions) with the same pattern set. It combines flat pattern making with draping methods. The inspiration behind the design was the great work of Madame Gres (1903–1993), her balloon sleeve taffeta gown.
